0xE0010601: General error (0x0601)

Hello Ian,
Sorry to know that you have issues in installing AVG.
We would request you to uninstall all the traces of older version of AVG using removal tool through this link http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe

You can re-install the latest version of AVG through the below link.

Please feel free to contact us for any further assistance.
Thank you.

I am using AVG for years now and I am having the same problem. I have done a total reset in my computer and reinstal the OS, so this is not a problem of old AVG products missing around. I do not have Windows installer, Windows defender or firewalls interfering… This is more an issue of the new version of AVG I am afraid… Try to solve this quickly or you are losing clients every day.

I am having same problem, followed above instructions, but still get the same error…
AVG wil no longer install…

Hi All,

I have used AVG Free for years.  Lately it has been sluggish and problematic.  Could not uninstall to install a new one.  I have tried the removal tool over and over and it seemed to remove the product from  my system. When I try to install a new AV Free, the Install fails, error 0xe0010601.   When I attemp a reinstall, it installs to 97%, then stops.  Interface is on the task bar opens, but it doesn't look the same, no "AVG AV", only "Internet Security", and doesn't respond except to offer me the trial version of Internet Security.  I'm lost.
I disabled my firewall (Zone Alarm) so it doesn't interfere, so don't think that is the problem.

Any soluation for this i tried many time i am getting same error

Hello Frank,
We are sorry to hear that the issue persists. We suggest you to open task manager in your computer. And click on "Process" tab. Please check if any "Windows installer" process running in the background. If is running, please end the task and then try to install AVG. To open Task Manager, please follow the below step:
Press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] to bring up the Windows Security screen, which provides users with five options including Windows Task Manager. Just click Start Task Manager.
Thank you

Hello Marilee,
We apologize for the inconvenience. We suggest you to download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces.

Open tool
User Account control - click "Yes"
Windows safe mode - click "No" (we cannot recommend use the tool in safe mode, because there is a problem with compability)
Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security)
Click "Uninstall"
Click "Restart computer"

I am having the same issue. Everytime I started my computer it would warn me that AVG free needed updated but when I tried it would say it was fully updated. I uninstalled and tried to reinstall and it gets to 97% and shows the above error. I can see an AVG Zen file on my computer start menu but it is nowhere to be found for uninstalling and your link said it found no AVG files on my computer.

Any tips?

I cannot install this programme, no matter what I do it WILL NOT install. I have even tried using the built in admin account which STILL won't work. I have tried 5 times using the standard free install and the other install and nothing. The owner of the computer has a the serial number for this and still I cannot get past the error page.Any further ideas? Surely someone there MUST know why this is doing it?

This was happening to me as well. It seems to be related to failed component downloads of the thin client installer, (evidenced by [Invalid signature] failures in AvgInstallLog.cab, if you save it from the error screen).

I was able to install successfully by downloading the full 64-bit installer (currently Antivirus_Free_x64_1818.exe at 285 MB) from https://www.avg.com/en-us/download.prd-gsr-free

Hope this helps!
