Hello Geoff,
Do you mean that after upgrading to our AVG 2016 version you are facing issue in transferring your Thunderbird email configuration?
I would request you to have a look at this link: http://avgread.me/1gtWgmT and check whether you have followed the same instructions and setup the Email scanner on your AVG program. The instructions is for the Gmail account but make sure that you have your right email address and domain in the place of Gmail.
Please have a look at this link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manual-account-configuration which has the instructions to setup the account on your Thunderbird.
So if you have all these in correct settings then please do let us know. Thank you.
I have hunted around support and the community and have found that I probably have to uninstall AVG 2015 and install 2016 as the upgrade fails. Version is 2015.0.6176. I believe that I upgraded after installing that version to Windows 10 from 8.1, though I have never had an issue with AVG after that or with Thunderbird interaction. (I have kept a copy of the failed upgrade logs if anybody in support needs it.)
In Thunderbird there are approximately 8 accounts with only one being a POP3 the others are all IMAP secure accounts. What I want to do is to back up the config files and then import them back into AVG 2016. Looking back on the Internet for around 2010/2011 which are the only articles etc I could find it states that though this could be done, it will not necessarily work as there are difference between the two versions. Besides knowing whether this is still possible I could also do with knowing what config files I need to back up and the correct location as there appears to be some in different location for all users and also under named users in the Appdata roaming folder. Anybody have the answers?
Thanks for the input. So even if I saved a cfg file and copied it across the the correct location in 2016 and restarted AVG it would not detect them?
I will make the submission as requested for the future.
No not at all. AVG 2015 will not upgrade so i want to save the configuration before I remove 2015 competely, Then install AVG 2016, and import/copy the configuration into AVG 2016. I was hoping that with this I would then not have to set up all the security settings etc again for the scanner. All those links you included are of no use as I know how to do all of the items covered in those links. I have done it many times. It is a real hasle having to do all of this manually, especially with several accounts, and is stupid when you could imort export the configuration.
Yes you are right, Geoff. Please submit your valuable feedback to our development team. Your patience is much appreciated.
Hello Geoff,
I certainly understand that you are trying to transfer the settings that are saved on your 2015 AVG program to the 2016 version but unfortunately there is no feature in our AVG program to export or import the settings from the previous versions. I apologize for the inconvenience caused. However, we value your feedback and I request you to submit this to us via http://www.avg.com/product-feedback so that this idea may be considered and it may be implemented in the upcoming versions. Thank you.
