A virus installed AVG on my PC without my consent?

I unfortunately am the victim of some malware.   And that malware has apparently installed AVG on my PC.   I haven't used AVG in many years and it was several computers ago.
I detected an issue on my computer and began taking steps to try to remove it.  I ran a number of programs to scan and fix issues, and restarted my PC.   Upon rebooting AVG was installed not by me...   the AVG installation program runs constantly alongside the actual AVG program, but is a locked up window when clicked on.   I have tried to uninstall, and been told the installation program is already running, but it's of course locked up.   And AVG's own self-defenses block me from shutting it down or removing it.
I'm not sure what to do, I've never had a virus install an anti-virus before?

Hi John,

Please do not worry, we will help you in this.
I request you to share us the screenshot of the application that you are not able to remove.
Since you haven't used AVG for a long time, that must be an old AVG application.
Which is taking time to respond when you try to uninstall.
If you click multiple times, the windows will notify that the process is already running.
