Did you perform any task using the AVG TuneUp to the PDF.
Check if you have put the PDF file in the sleep mode.
If you are still not able to open the PDF, we need to undo all the changes made by the AVG TuneUp
Recuse Center - Undo all the changes
Keep us posted.

I have recently installed TuneUp
Acrobat is used for .pdf files.
Now .pdf files when opened generates a message
Acrobat failed to connect to DDE Server
