Advanced Settings "Enable AVG Self Protection". What is that?

Hello K Weber,
We wish to keep you informed that  AVG Self Protection enables AVG to protect its own processes, files, registry keys and drivers from being changed or deactivated. We always recommend to every customer not to uncheck the Self protection option. Due to the arrival of new threats and infections, we have updated our AVG security program with high new security patches and updates to enhance the computer security. Please update your AVG program frequently to get latest virus definations. Thank you.

Under Advanced Settings there is a selection to "Enable AVG Self Protection".  What is that?  I can't find a description of AVG Self Protection anywhere.
