After AVG Free install MS Defender still the designated Security Provider in Win 10

I am trying to help a friend install AVG Free.  We have loaded AVG and it is showing in the System Tray (Notification Area) next to the clock.  When you hover over it, indicates that “You are protected”, there are NO right click options and when you double click on it you get the AVG Dashboard.  However, in the Virus & Threat Protection screen of the Security Dashboard, MS Defender is shown as the security provider, NOT AVG.    Normally, when AVG Free AV is installed, MS Defender is put into a kind of hibernation.

The Virus & Threat Protection screen of the Security Dashboard shows:
                Security providers
Manage the apps and services that protect your device

                Antivirus
                Microsoft Defender Antivirus
Microsoft Defender Antivirus is turned on.

Can anyone describe how to force AVG and not MS Defender to be the Security Provider on the Virus & Threat Protection screen and get full right click functionality on the AVG System Tray icon?

Thanks,
Mike
