After updating AVG & installing tune-up, my computer is running even slower. Please advise how I get it back up to speed. It's an i7 with 8gb of Ram, but is crawling. Please advise

There may be multiple root causes. Apart of what Alan suggested, I'd also recommend you to check this article.
