Every single pdf I try to download gets flagged as ‘failed -virus scan failed’.
How do I add exceptions for pdf’s no matter where they come from.
This is very frustrating as I have to keep disabling AVG, download the file, and hope I remember to re-enable AVG, and sometimes I don’t for days!
I’d avoid disabling AVG completely just to download PDFs, especially if it sometimes stays disabled for days. That leaves your system unnecessarily exposed.
Since every PDF is being flagged with “virus scan failed,” I’d first check whether AVG or your browser is causing the problem rather than assuming the files themselves are infected. Make sure AVG is fully updated, then restart your computer and try downloading a PDF from a trusted website.
If the problem continues, check AVG’s quarantine/threat history and web protection settings to see what is actually blocking the downloads. I also wouldn’t recommend creating a blanket exception for PDFs from any website, because a malicious PDF can still contain harmful content.
If you can identify the specific AVG component or detection responsible for the block, you can create a more targeted exception for that trusted site or file location instead. That should be much safer than allowing all PDFs regardless of where they come from.
