How about not creating an app that can go off unbidden. That would be a d*** good start.
I'm having the same issue. Upgraded my AVG and had the alarm go off at a funeral. Is there anyway to ensure thus doesn't happen again as upgrading to get a feature I can't use isn't helpful.
Version 6.9.3-317196-3a2f7f5
The false alarms started again today (April 1, 2018). I had to shut the phone down.
My phone was also disconnected from my avg account. I had to delete the device from the website; uninstall the app; reinstall the app; reinstall the license; and log back into the website. That got everything looking normal.
Ralf,
We regret the inconvenience and request you to remove the device from Anti-theft portal (my.avg.com) and trun off the Anti-theft in mobile device.
Now, please try to reactivate Anti-theft feature on mobile device and check the situation.
To deactivate the Anti-theft feature on mobile, please follow the steps below:
1. Open AVG Anti-virus.
2. Tap on the menu drawer at the top left corner.
3. Click on Anti-theft.
4. Turn off the Anti-theft.
Then, login to Anti-theft portal and remove the device. Restart the device and register it again. Please check whether you are still experiencing the same issue after re-register.
Hello Akash Chanda,
I have the same problem. I am using AVG Free (german version) since many years on my Android smarthones. I never activated or configured anti-theft. Last weekend, when my smartphone was safely in my pocket, the alarm started. I had to reboot my smartphone to stop the alarm. What is going wrong?
Kind regards
Ralf
I decided to uninstall AVG (for unrelated reasons). I reinstalled and reconnected it to my account, and tested as many functions as I could. Let's see if the problem happens again.
I've been using AVG for almost four years, and it's never done this before.
I've having the same problem. I don't even remember setting up anti-theft and I certainly don't remember my PIN number if I ever had one. So annoying and embarrassing for this to happen on public transport.
Hi Jerry,
I apologize for the inconvenience caused due to the sudden Alarm.
I suggest you to re register the AVG Anti Theft and check if that fixes the issue.
To re-register the device, please follow the below steps :
1. Please open the AVG Anti Virus App on your mobile and then click on the Menu Drawer (Three - on the top Left corner)
2. Open Anti Theft (Enter code if prompted)
3. Once it is open, check if it is already turned ON, if yes, please turn it OFF and again Turn it ON.
My phone suddenly started sounding the alarm as if it had been stolen. It was safely in my pocket, and I don't think anyone else has my PIN. It did this twice today.
As anyone else seen this?

Bernard,
I know this might be upsetting, in old version of the app, Anti-Theft was connected to the AVG Mobilation portal to allow you to use all tracking and managing options. From the version 6.x, Anti-Theft is connected to the http://my.avg.com portal, so that you can manage all your licenses and also manage and track your mobile device from one place.
Note: When you update your AVG AntiVirus for Android to the version 6.x, your mobile device is automatically removed from AVG Mobilation and added to the my.avg.com portal.

Hello Michelle,
Is AVG automatically locks your Android device and getting alarmed as it has been stolen? Also, let me know if you are using the paid product.
Hi Angie,
I understand this must be annoying.
Could you confirm if you have tried re-registering the AVG Anti Theft?
If not, please do and check if that fixes the issue.

Select the portal according to app version and tap on unlock option. You can also use "Change PIN" and enter it on your device to get unlocked. For Anti-Theft features to be working, the following conditions are mandatory:
1. Active data connection on your device.
2. Your device should be turned ON and it should not be formatted.
3. Device should be displayed under remote control website.
Then refer this article:
http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Unlock-a-device-locked-by-AVG-AntiVirus-for-Android to perform the unlock steps.
I've been using version 6.x (6.9.3 now). The false alarm hasn't sounded again since I started this thread.
Thank you for updating the status, Jerry.
Glad to know that your issue has been resolved after installing the latest version.
Feel free to contact us if you need any assistance with AVG.
Have a nice day!!!
