I solved my issue by going to Google Play and searching for AVG. Click on "UPDATE" and let it update. Then go back to the AVG app and click on "resolve" issue.

Avast :- kindly check this when I try to update through app it says you are having latest update.
but as I mentioned above if you go inside play store there was an update.

I just had the same problem and it resolved with over the phone data went with what Scott mentioned and it works, thank u Scott.
Running AVG ultimate.
These are the steps already taken since 12-20-2018 for a virus update failure on android phones. PC's and tablets are up to date.
I have now uninstalled and reinstalled ultimate fresh. It is saying last version is November and will not update.
Did a fresh install direct from AVG and failed. So this time I pulled the app from the play store. It completes the install and when I check for updates the virus definition reads November 22nd version 181122-00 and fails update. That happens in pro and free AVG antivirus.
Steps already taken
I have twice reinstall avg without any change.
The first attempt was direct from avg.com android download
The second install was from google play store.
Before each reinstall I did Force stop and clear data, full uninstall and reboot. Without any change and this is happening to both mine and my wife's phone.
after all the steps App Info tells me I am running AVG antivirus Version 6.15.1

Yes, Kanisius. We started informing customers that the issue has been fixed and asked to update the app through PlayStore to confirm this.
