Annoying persistent pop-ups

Thank you for sharing us the screenshot, Colin.
This isn't the usual behavior of AVG. In this regard, you may need to reinstall the program. However, reinstallation process requires admin privileges. Hence, you need to login to administrator account to perform this.
Before helping you with the steps to reinstall, let us know if you're using AVG Free Antivirus on your computer.

Hi C Well, I've got the same issue as Colin when working with an account that is a member of the Guests group.   I had high hopes for your suggested solution, but alas it had no effect.

I think what we can tell from the pop-up (mine being the same) is that AVG is actually running.  So having permission to read the .exe file is not the issue.   I suspect the process is trying to interact with some process, or access some disk location which - with the reduced permissions of the guest account - it does not have access to.

I don't mind dismissing a pop-up in this case, but the problem is that it continually re-appears so I can't watch videos without being interrupted.  You would think it would give up once it realised it wasn't allowed to do whatever it's doing.

Here's a screenshot to prove I've got it up to date:

Hi Colin,
We are here to help.
We will need to check the pop-up you are referring. May I have the screenshot of the same to assist further?
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on "Answer" & then click on the "Image" [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.

Colin,

I know this is probably a day late and a dollar short, but I fixed it on my computer, so hopefully my solution will help you as well.

1. If you or someone has access to an Administrator account on the computer where you want to use it as a Guest, have them login to their account.
2. Locate AVG in the Start Menu, right click the icon, and click Properties.
3. Click the Security tab and click Edit
4. Click Add, and type Guest into the box that says, "Enter the object names to select," and click ok.
5. In the Allow column, make sure that at least Read and excecute and Read are checked. (You can allow full access if you want to, but you don't have to.)
6. Click Apply, and click OK.

Now when you login to the Guest account, the annoying message should be gone.

Also, don't let Dinesh lie to you. It IS the usual behavior of AVG. I found threads dating back at least as far as 2014 with this same issue.

I hope that helps, Colin.

"…you are not allowed to perform this action…"

This pop up persistently happens a couple of times every few minutes  in Win7.
AVG repair doesn't help??
Don't have to be using a browser, just appears on top of whatever I'm using or just Desktop :frowning:
Please help.
Thanks, Colin

Hi Colin.
Sorry for the delay in responding.
Our senior technical team has confirmed that this is expected behavior as you have to manually configure access for guest accounts.
The following page, https://is.gd/3cRjZN, provides additional information on how to configure access for Guest User in MS Windows Users. For additional support, you can contact Microsoft.

pop up every few minutes

I am logged in as Guest, but accepting this message still sees it returning over and over every few minutes from first pc boot?

Hi Peter,

We're glad to look into this & help you.
AVG program requires admin priveleges to actively protect your computer.
However, we'll check this with our next level support to see if there are any options available to sort this. Once we receive the info from them, we'll write back to you. Thank you for your understanding in advance!

Thanks Dinesh.
AVG was certainly installed using an account in the Administrator's group and works fine in that account.   But my computer is shared in the house for Visitors (in the Guests group) and it's not happy running there.
As an administrator I tried setting the compatibility options on the .exe files to always "Run as Administrator" but that didn't work either.    Thanks!
