Anti-virus doesn't scan when told to

I'm having problems with my antivirus scanning when I sit down at the computer and hit the first key stroke. this is driving me crazy. I have changed the settings to only scan at midnight but its not.

That didn't help. the scan starts as soon as I wake up the computer.
