My anti virus is not working

It just list Virus definations are out of date when I press update now it goes to programme update but when you press that nothing happens

Thank you for the information Gordon,
You may have issues with the DNS servers from your internet service provider. I request you to change DNS server to the default Google DNS.
Please follow the below instruction to do it:
-Click Search, search for Control Panel, and then click Control Panel.
-Click Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
-Click Change adapter settings.
-Right-click the connection you use, and select Properties.
-Double-click the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item on the Networking tab.
-Select the radio button "Use the following DNS Server addresses".
-Enter the value 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
-Click OK to confirm the changes, and then close the window.
Reboot your computer once and check the status.
