AntiVirus for Android appears to be blocking Play Store downloads

Apps downloaded from Google play store are verified, virus free apps and AVG usually does not interfere.
If I may ask, how did you narrow down this issue to AVG?

I have AVG AntiVirus for Android on my LG phone, but I can't download any apps from the Play Store. The downloads start, but never finish. Is there a setting I can change to allow the apps I choose to download?

I didn't narrow it down to AVG, but it seemed logical that AVG might be blocking the downloads because I didn't have any issues with downloads before installing the latest version of AVG.
