AntiVirus Free Scanning

Hello Tony,
AVG has launched 2017 version and your AVG Anti-Virus free has been upgraded to AVG 2017 version which has the different scan settings. The new scan types are efficient and helps us to detect the viruses efficiently. Performance scan is related to AVG PC TuneUp, so to scan your computer to check for infected files, please use the "Full computer scan". "Deep virus scan" is a deep analysis scan which scans your entire computer and the scan progress will be slow.  You  can use "File and Folder scan" to scan a particular file or folder. "USB/DVD scan" used to scan the external USB/DVD devices. "Boot time scan" used to do a scan during the computer start up and it will take more several minutes to complete the scan. If you need to schedule a scan, use the link to show how to schedule a scan : http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-start-or-plan-a-computer-scan
Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance.  Thank you

Thanks, Sreedevi,

The reason for my questions is I want to have my computer scanned WITHOUT having any shortcuts removed or my Recycle Bin emptied.

My AVG AntiVirus Free was updated last night. A Full Scan of my computer now seems divided into 2 parts: ‘Viruses & other malware’, and ‘Performance issues’. I do a scan at least once a week and would rather just scan for ‘Viruses & other malware’ if scanning for ‘Performance issues’ might delete shortcuts I use or empty my Recycle Bin – I deliberately leave some junk in there. I’ve seen the Scan Options: ‘Full Computer Scan’, ‘Deep Virus Scan’, ‘USB/DVD Scan’, ‘File or Folder Scan’, ‘Performance Scan’, and ‘Boot-Time Scan’. Is my only option to do each of these scans except the ‘Performance Scan’?

Please don’t delete this follow-up question that I’m posting for a second time – it seems you deleted it the first time I posted it:

What exactly does the ‘Performance issues’ component of the Full Computer Scan check for? I hope you know what I’m referring to (pls. see my earlier posts).

THE FULL COMPUTER SCAN HAS A ‘PERFORMANCE ISSUES’ COMPONENT. THE PERFORMANCE SCAN IS A SEPARATE SCAN ALTOGETHER. I NEED TO BE SURE THE ‘PERFORMANCE ISSUES’ COMPONENT OF THE FULL COMPUTER SCAN WILL NOT EMPTY MY RECYCLE BIN. PLEASE CONFIRM THIS. THE RESPONSES I HAVE RECEIVED SO FAR REFER TO THE PERFORMANCE SCAN, NOT THE ‘PERFORMANCE ISSUES’ COMPONENT OF THE FULL COMPUTER SCAN.

Hello Tony,
The whole system scan will include full scan of whole folders.
You can remove broken short cuts by running the performance scan.
Thank you.

Hi Tony,

The performance Scan will scan for Registry Issues, System Cache & Logs, Browser Data and Outdated Software only. Also, it will be same for the Full Computer Scan also.

Thank you!

Hi Tony,

We understand your concern, we would like to inform you that the Performance Scan will scan for Registry Issues, System Cache & Logs, Browser Data and Outdated Software only. It will not remove Shortcuts and clear the Recycle Bin.

Thank you!

Hi again, Gunaseelan,

The first around 60% or so of the new Full Computer Scan addresses ‘Viruses & other malware’, and the remaining around 40% addresses ‘Performance issues’. You say the ‘Performance issues’ don’t include shortcuts (‘broken shortcuts’). Do they include Recycle Bins that aren’t empty?
