I know this doesn't help you, but I have the same problem.  Let's get this fixed!

Keith, When uninstalling did you use the AVG total removal tool?.

My AVG has no active components and when I try to update I get a message an error occured when saving configuration connection is offline.I have tried to repair and uninstall but then I get a message saying installation failed avgfws  is running and cannot be shut down check your authorisation can anyone help?
