Antivirus update is failing. Message just says general error .I have tried going in to advanced settings and deleting temp update files as per help menu but still the same -wont update

Now sorted having spoken to a human being at AVG; open programs in control panel of computer. 
Select add or remove programs.
select AVG,click on change.Then select repair and follow instructions .
Easy and worked a treat.

Hello, i have same problem but by me "Update erfolgreich abgeschlossen" (Update su ccessfully done) and one line bellow "Allgemeiner Fehler" (General Failure).
What's the meaning what  to do to get the update working?

I've done it twice and it keeps happening, will update for a day or two then stop working.  Will try to repair when I can.  If this is not corrected soon I will convert to another product.  Sick of things not working when they are supposed too.  Also sick of reaching India when I need to speak to someone who speaks American English without the accent so thick I cannot understand them.
