Apparent virus warning from Google Chrome

Hi Chris,

The message you see is a spam pop-up which is not caused by AVG.

Please follow the below troubleshooting steps and check if you the message again in Google Chrome.

1. Check your installed program application in Control panel and uninstall any suspicious program installed recently.
2. Reset your Google Chrome browser. Refer the article for the same:  https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214

Just got a Google Chrome "warning" about 5 viruses infecting Windows 10 including Win32/Hoax.Renos.hx and a "reminder to renew my Norton software  -  which I don't have.

Just got an all clear from my AVG checks  - so is this genuine or a scam?

I appreciate your efforts for checking on this, Chris.

Since you have reinstalled Google Chrome on your PC, I would suggest you to monitor the status and check if you receive the same pop-up from Norton.

If yes, I would recommend you to reset your Google Chrome browser (https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214) and check if you receive the pop-up again

Many thanks for your quick response.  The most recent program updates were from AVG (expected) and Microsoft OneDrive, which I uninstalled and then downloaded again from the microsoft website (it came with the same version number) plus Googe Chrome update again with the correct version number.

I've also reported it to Google Chrome. Then did a google search on "what is fres-news.com" and Malware tips (whoever they are) says that "The Fres-news.com pop-up is a browser-based scam that tries to trick you into subscribing to push notifications so that it can send unwanted advertisements" directly to your desktop". Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

Many thanks - Chris
