Appears avg virus protetion is causing a problem with my emails , since thunderbird did an update th

Since the update I am unable to get any messages, I think I have exhausted all the support questions
when I try to  retrieve emails it looks as though it is happening then nothing thunderbird suggests contacting avg
can anyone help
