Hi,
I performed those steps:
- Uninstalled AVG
- Installed and ran Clear Tool
- Manually removed all AVG folders
- Re-installed latest version from AVG website, now running 20.5.2415 (build 20.5.5410.586)
The problem persists, see screenshot below from today:
I can try disabling the Behaviour Shield, but I'd rather not expose my PC to any risks. Any other ideas, or will I need to look for a different anti-virus? Thanks
Today not as bad, but still excessive usage.
Software version 20.5.2415 (build 20.5.5410.561).
Thanks
We'd like to further investigate on this, Glaux. Hence, we've sent you an email including the steps to collect logs & upload it to our server. Please follow those steps & upload the logs to our server. Once we receive it, we'll forward this to our senior tem to analyze.
Task Manager wasn't showing anything unusual, until I decided to try "Show processes from all users" and found that the culprit was aswidsagent.exe, labelled as Avast Software Analyzer. It was causing high CPU usage and hogging about 1.3GB RAM. No wonder my PC couldn't cope.
Having looked it up, I found that other users have been having this same problem and the official recommendation seems to be to uninstall AVG and reinstall it (the unofficial one is to disable the Behaviour Shield, which sounds like a terrible idea). I tried to reinstall, but the problem persists.
The Software Analyzer seems to restart itself several times a day, despite the fact that I've installed no new software in weeks. You'd think once the shield had analyzed all my software and deemed it safe, it would leave it alone until something new was installed, but that's clearly not how it works.
Is there anything else I an do to resolve this problem? I am now unfortunately having to consider switching to a different anti-virus software. I want protection but I can't have most of my PC's resources used up by the anti-virus. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing the screenshot.
Please refer to this article to uninstall the AVG Antivirus Free using our Clear tool.
Once the AVG Antivirus Free has been uninstalled using our Clear tool, please navigate to C > Program files/programs x86/programs data > AVG > delete the AVG folders located in these paths.
Kindly reinstall your AVG Antivirus Free to check if the issue persists.
Thanks in a advance.
