Hello Elaine,
We will clarify this for you.
The auto renewal service will be enabled for AVG subscription when you agree to the terms and conditions during the purchase: https://www.avg.com/subscription.
The attempt of charging $139.99 was made for the renewal of AVG Internet Security (1 Computer) (2 Years) license recently due to auto renewal service enabled for its first purchase.
We have sent prior email notification regarding the auto renewal process and the charge that is going to be taken.
The reason for price increase is because we have made significant improvements to our detection rates over the last year and we expect to continue this investment as the threat landscape is getting more complex.
We have cancelled the auto renewal for AVG Internet Security license and further attempts to charge will not happen for it.
You do have it enabled for AVG PC TuneUp (1 Computer) license registered on your account.
Do you wish to cancel it too?

Your answer does not explain why I was told just one day prior that the renewal would be $99.99 and asking me to renew within 15 days then you automatically take a 40% higher amount the following day? Why would you ask me to do something within 2 weeks then automatically do it right away? And for more. Makes no sense at all. That is horrible business practice and I don't really care how much anyone else charges if I can avoid that kind of treatment I'm gone and I'll be sure to make it known that you cannot be trusted with my account information. You haven't made it 40% better. I promise. The tune up never worked so yes, cancel that too. SMH.
First of all, I NEVER ask for auto renew and if you put it in the fine print then shame on you. I received YESTERDAY a notice that my subscription expires in 15 days and the renewal amount is $99.99. Today I get a text that my bank has blocked a suspicious attempt to collect $139.99. Seriously? And now there is nobody to speak with about it I have to put all of my business out here on this "forum". NOT appreciated from my SPAM protector. Where on earth did the 40% increase come from? I will be looking for new coverage from elsewhere upon renewal so don't worry about that payment I blocked. You really want to piss people off? Auto renew something with no notice and two weeks early. Ummm…no.
Elaine, we're sorry to know that you feel this way.
The reason for price increase is because we have made significant improvements to our detection rates over the last year and we expect to continue this investment as the threat landscape is getting more complex.
During auto renewal, the current price of the product will always get applied.
If users wish to get a discount for it, then they can cancel the auto renewal process and contact our sales team https://support.avg.com/support_sales_chat to get a discount.
If not, they can use the discount price that they get via email.
This isn't the experience we want you to have, Elaine. Let us attempt to explain this clearly.
Usually, we do send pre-billing notification prior 30 days of subscription's expiry (which has been sent to you on 9/8/19). This email clearly states the charge will be 139.99 for the renewal of AVG Internet Security.
It seems that the email that you've received is not for AVG Internet Security. To ensure this, provide us the order number listed in the email via email which has been sent to you. Reason being, it isn't recommended to share order details over this post.
Regarding TuneUp, we've disable the automatic renewal & an email confirming the same has been sent to you. Hence, it will expire on Mar 27, 2021. Thank you for your understanding in advance!
This is what I received on October 7th.
Thank you, Elaine.
The email shown in the screenshot is a campaign offer to renew the subscription at discounted price. You received this email because this campaign is currently active in your region or you are eligible for it.
It is pure coincidence that you received this reminder and automatic renewal notification at the same time. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
As automatic renewal of your subscription is cancelled now, you might want to avail the offer and renew at $99.99.
