Hello Mike,
I apologize for the inconvenience. Please repair AVG Antivirus http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-repair-AVG from the control panel and then check if that fix the issue.
Thanks Bhuvaneswari, as I mentioned, I did run a "repair" sequence. I apologize, I was unclear. This was the “repair” option from the “Unistall or change a program” window that you provided directions to. It didn't have any effect.
Again, is there a registry entry that I can check to verify that virus definition update is enabled?
Thanks
AVG Free on my desktop is not automatically downloading the virus definitions. It works fine on my laptop. I am using Windows 7 and both the desktop and laptop are set up the same.
Going to the AVG main Window(is this now called the “Dashboard?”)/Menu/Settings/Update/Virus Definitions/Settings, I have “Automatic update” and “Enable streaming updates” selected/enabled.
Since noticing this (lack of ) update behavior I have uninstalled and reinstalled (and tried to “repair” once) AVG several times. I currently have version 175.3021 installed. I have used the Windows Uninstall routine as well as AVG_Remover, AVG_ResetAccess, and AVG_Clear. Early on I even used CCleaner in case the AVG routines missed anything.
Any ideas how to get my AVG to update virus definitions automatically again? Is there a registry setting that I can check to verify the update service?
Mike

Mike,
Virus definition updates will silently get installed in the background. Do you see any warning or error message about the virus definitions on AVG interface? Please go to Menu->Settings->Update and let us know the virus definition version to assist you further.
