Malwarebytes will not stop avg product purchase popups. They are coded in the 2017 version for some reason, and apparently cant be prevented at this time without turning off all notifications. Never heard of that until now. I am sure they will soon correct that, because it is a disaster.

Apparently, I received an automated update to my AVG protection package Friday evening. I am running windows 10. I use the system covered by AVG, for my business. The update shut me down. I returned to a computer that was blocked from the Internet, discovered that multiple instances of the old version for AVG were running at the same time. Further discovered that both the old and new version were doing battle with each other. In total I lost a days work (Friday evening and half of Saturday). To be blunt, a disaster for me. If I put in 7 hours today (Sunday), I might meet the commitments I have made to key customers. I know this isn't your issue but just emphasizing how bad things have been since I received the lovely update.
After significant research, I determined that I must remove the old version of AVG and then “repair” the new version. Run complete scans, cleanup, backups, etc. Now I am running the new version but still have a “ghost” of the old version in my program directory.
One big question: is there an effective way to block AVG so that it never updates anything without my specific release to do so? I figure I’ll need to run an image backup copy prior to allowing any further updates so that AVG does not destroy my business in the future.
Second issue: I am now receiving “pop-ups” from AVG to purchase other items. Has anyone tried installing MalwareBytes to block AVG popups? It is exceptionally irritating that I am paying AVG to ram advertising into my face and I am now looking for a solution to this new ongoing issue.
I appreciate any and all feedback.
