Automatic subscription i did not want

I got a notification my "subscription was renewed" and my credit card got charged and i did not want this.  how do i cancel this and get my money back?  i never got any other prior notification you were going to do this.  i absolutely do not want to pay for this, in fact i canceled my AVG program and uninstalled it (or so i thought) months ago.  if this can't get resolved i'll go through my bank to try to stop the charge as i consider this theft by deception
