Thanks for replying but I don't see how they can be relevent to the problem:-
* They didn't actually exist on either of the PCs - but on a USB storage drive attached to one of them - meaning they are certainly irrelevent to the second
* They were either removed even before the problem even started, or their removal made no difference to the one PC the drive was connected to
* They were unused, inactive files (one I recall was an uninstalled driver for an old scanner) and nothing to do with any running or accessable programmes
Regards.
Thanks for the reply.
There were no detected threats as this has been during times of normal PC usage - not while carrying out any scans.
I do run occasional scans - moreso recently. Only one scan, on one of the two PCs, has thrown anything up in ages. 3 items on my storage drive (Not the C drive). AVG got rid of them but it made no difference to the problem.
It may even have been before the problem started. I don't recall the date.
Sorry I can't give you any details on those three as I have since uninstalled AVG 2014 and re-installed 2013, so no longer have any data on them but i doubt they were relevent, especially as they didn't exist on the second PC.

Brian
I've been using AVG Free 2013 for some time with no problems on two desktop PCs.
Recently I changed to AVG 2014 Free and immediately started having big problems.
When I edit and save a Word 2003 doc file on a USB 2.0 device (pen drive or external hard drive) once in every 3-5 attempts it comes up with "Word Cannot Complete The Save Due To A File Permission Error." "OK"
What happens after you push "OK" varies but always results in creation of a "~WRLxxxx.tmp" file which cannot be saved and both it and my file ultimately disappear. without trace.
Oddly it doesn't seem to effect the C drive (IDE) but I didn't test it very long.
Either way, to any external USB drive (three tried), Word is rendered unusable. And all my files are stored on an external hard drive and flash drives as I've outgrown my C drive.
I tried Googling the problem. A number of possible reasons were mentioned but the only one which looked relevent to me was an issue with anti-virus software.
So I deleted AVG 2014 Free with the removal tool and re-installed it but that didn't help. Same problem.
Then I deleted it again, without reinstalling, and the problem had gone.
I then re-installed AVG 2013 and the problem has thankfully not come back (Yet at least…).
I then removed AVG 2014 Free from the second PC and that, again, fixed the problem. I haven't yet re-installed 2013 but I intend to.
The two PCs are different but both with older MSI motherboards (PM8M-V & KT4AV v1.1), running Windows XP Pro (One has SP2 & one has SP3), both have Office 2003 + the 2007 converter, IE6, Firefox 28 & Spybot v1.6.2.
Can anything be done about this to allow me to upgrade to 2014 again?
Thanks.
Hi Brian,
Unfortunatelly in that case is it not possible to say what and why it happaned.
Thanks

Hi Brian.
Can you please tell us what were the names of the threats detected by AVG?
