Win10 Pro-64-bit. Attempts to install AVG 2015 fail with 0xE001003D and "setting of firewall registry keys failed". Naturally, attempts have been made to allow firewall passage of AVG installer; running of AVG Repair tool; AVG Remover (first version failed with "connection error"), and a 64-bit AVG Remover that after it runs insists on trying to install the "Sound Control Panel v 2.15." Attempts to force quit the install of the Sound Control only bring up the install wizard again and again. As this has nothing to do with AVG anti-virus, I can only conclude an attempt at malware. Previous checks of system with malware scanner proved clean. The AVG Remover from the AVG site is highly suspect. Doing a search on line for Sound Control Panel 2.15 I see it is a highly outdated product with no updates to it in years. There is no reason to understand why the AVG remover wants to install it.
The registry has been checked and confirmed of no instances of "AVG" remain. Windows Defender is turned off during reinstall attempt, and Firewall is either allowed to pass AVG installer, or I simply turn off the Firewall temporarily. None has made a difference.
Technical support wanted to log in remotely to my system to "fix" it. I authorize no one into my system.
It appears time to look elsewhere for anti-virus protection beyond just Windows Defender than using an AVG product.
If anyone has any true fix for this issue, feel free to share your thoughts.
No one will log in remotely to my machine.
Even more so, I would like an explanation as to why the AVG Removal Tool you posted tries to force the installation of the (outdated) freeware "Sound COntrol Panel v2.15?"
