AVG blocks Canon EOS Utility (used for downloading images and controlling camera from computer). From what I can see it blocks the services needed.
Problem appeared after upgrade, and is confirmed on two computers.
Removing and re-installing either AVG or the EOS program suite have no effect on this problem. Trying to manually start EOS Utility while AVG is running wont work.
The EOS utility works as it should if AVG is temporarily disabled.
AVG version 2015.0.6081
This is a major problems when you use your Canon cameras daily and quite irritating!
Checked with others and all who have this AVG version seems to have the same problem
Thank you for sending us the information Mart. You will receive further communications only via email from our level two technical agent regarding this. I would request you to check for the email on spam or junk folders if the email is not present in the inbox. Thank you.
First
If you only make an exception for EOS Utility (…\Canon\EOS Utility\EOS Utility.exe)
It seems that the service is started by the "EOS Utility.exe", but that the interface that is started by the service when connecting some cameras is "EOS Utility 2.exe".
and To make it work with the latest Canon update you also need to make an exception for the EOS Utility 2 (…\Canon\EOS Utility\EU2\EOS Utility 2.exe)
and then To make it work with the latest Canon update you also need to make an exception for the EOS Utility 3 (…\Canon\EOS Utility\EU3\EOS Utility 3.exe) which is used by my camera.
At least this now works for me.
In the part Use this exception for:, uncheck Resident Shield and Manual and Scheduled Scan. Only Identity Protection needs to be checked. For all three exceptions.
I am now able to use the Canon Eos Utility again even though I've changed nothing since I reported the problem. Prior to that I followed all the instructions given to J Persson and Mart, having suffered the sympoms exactly as described by them. I submitted the diagnostic information as requested earlier today after making those changes.
Latest version of EOS Utility downloaded today and installed (clean install).
AVG continues to block even if path and/or application is added to AVG exception list (have tried all possible combinations). Computer restarted after each single change.
Added info: if Canon EOS utility is manually started while AVG is temporarily disabled and kept running, it will then block the application GUI from displaying. Trying to start EOS utility at this point will prompt a message that the EOS utility is already running.
As I said in my original post I have tried everything on this thread. In addition the response I recieved from AVG care only told me to do what this thread has suggested. I hope AVG can do something with my sys info because disabeling my virus protection is a very poor way to download images. Not very happy at this point.
I'm waiting for answer on this too. I have followed all the above steps with the same results.
I sent my sytem info data on July 23rd and have still not heard anything back.
Hello J. Please right click your Canon EOS Utility and go to properties. You could see .exe file and folder path. Please use the link: http://avgread.me/18WB2dg to add .exe file in application/file exception list and path in folder exception list. In the part Use this exception for:, uncheck Resident Shield and Manual and Scheduled Scan. Only Identity Protection needs to be checked. Please feel free to contact us if you are facing any issue. Thank you.

I have run AVG_Sysinfo.exe and sent the logs and description as requested.
I have disabled each of the components in order and in combination (including all components disabled but AVG running). The problem remains for all and any disabled components and only when I use "Temporarily disable AVG protection" does the EOS Utility work.
I received an update to the AVG software yesterday and since then my EOS utility software does not work until I temporarily disable AVG. I have made all of the EOS executables as exceptions but the utility still does not work whilst AVG is running. I am sorry to state that the Jerry workaround did not help either. I hope you can find a solution to this problem quickly as it is obviously causing many headaches!!
I am having the same EOS problem. So far nothing on this thread has helped correct my EOS launch.
I'm having the same problems as stated above. It work fine on July 13 but not at all on July 14. SO something that updated then seems to be the problem.
My EOS Utility only runs if I disable AVG

Latest AVG version 2015.0.6.6125 seems to have solved the problem. It works fine with latest Canon software and without exceptions.
Thanks for all effort and help here.
