David, What AVG product are you using?.

Sorry Zybnek but I had tried that twice a few days ago. It didn't help. My test so far indicate that the problem is with AVG, as it works with AVG disabled. However, I now don't think it is the firewall because I have tried with AVG running without the firewall and it still doesn't work. I'm still baffled. It worked fine with AVG 2014.
thinkbroadband.com gives me a different speed tester according to whether I am logged in or not. The logged in version is the one I am trying to use - it is much more comprehensive. The other one does run ok with AVG 2015. Problem occurs regardless as to whether browser is Chrome or IE.
