Hi Java,
I am happy to see that your issue is resolved.
Thanks for posting solution here.
1AVG 2015 UPDATE PREVENTS REBOOT OF WINDOWS 7 PC.
I am posting this so it is out there somewhere, even tho I have already resolved the issue on my own.
Power outage last night, and my Windows 7 Home Pre HP 64-bit PC would not boot. Hung on the Starting Windows screen. Sometimes it made it to Startup Repair.
Startup Repair ran System Restore and then the PC booted. (I didn't realize it at the time, but System Restore rolled back the upgrade from AVG 2014 Free to AVG 2015 Free, which had been installed, but not rebooted to complete the installation).
Not realizing this, I updated AVG from 2014 to 2015 again, let it reboot and blam-o, the same problem came back. (Initially I thought the power outage caused the issue, but it was AVG's reboot which was coincidentally after the power outage).
Again I ran Startup Repair (it works every 2nd time), it ran System Restore again, and then it booted fine. That's when I figured out it was the AVG 2015 upgrade install causing the issue.
PS my AVG 2014 was totally hosed after this ordeal. Repairing the installation of 2014 worked, and it rebooted too w/o issue after the repair.
I even called AVG Tech Support (877-469-8630) to let them know about the issue, tho I doubt it will get passed up the chain.
There you go, FWIW. Hope it helps someone!
