Hello,
The problem I've reported here before of my monitor either crashing or failing to boot from time to time, apparently from some kind of conflict between my Windows 7 Home Premium OS and AVG Anti-Virus Free, hasn't stopped. It doesn't happen when I uninstall AVG, but starts again after I reinstall it. This happened with (what I was told was) the trial version of Free and also the non-trial version. Recently, I tried the app reported online to be the main competitor of AVG Anti-Virus Free, but to my surprise, the same problem occurred (my monitor froze when I tried to boot up after installation).
The techie who recovered my frozen monitor and uninstalled the app suggested the problem was being caused by inadequate RAM, or an underlying problem with either my hard drive or my OS. He said 39% of my system's hard drive free was a small proportion, and speculated my system's performance might be affected by any unnecessary programs on it, some of which might be running auto-updates when I'm online (though much of my hard drive's capacity is actually taken by mp3 music files). BUT without either AVG or its competing app installed, my system has been working just fine!
This is to ask: what are the various possible causes of the problem? Until I know, it seems best to avoid AVG Anti-Virus Free and similar apps. I'd used AVG Anti-Virus Free since 2011 – these problems started only a few years ago.

So the email I received was a replica of the first reply above from Aarthy.
I was hoping for suggestions in this thread on the possible cause(s) of the problem. As it's stopped without AVG, the impression is AVG was the cause all along.
Anyway, thanks.
We understand your concern and apologize for the inconvenience caused, Tony.
Before we proceed, could you specify your computer's RAM capacity and the amount of available storage left in your hard drive?
Also, please specify the service pack version of your Windows 7 operating system.
Awaiting your response.
Hello Aarthy,
Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.
Thanks for your offer. But in the same way that the technician who recovered my frozen monitor recently suggested some possible causes of the problem, all I was hoping for was suggestions from AVG – I'm sure I can't be the only one to have reported such a problem over the years. I'm now extremely wary about installing any files from AVG or competing apps, considering the inconvenience and expense they've caused me in recent years because of this problem. As I haven't had the problem since uninstalling them, I'm just curious about the possible cause.
If suggestions on the cause of the problem or links to similar threads as this one in this Community could be shared with me, I'd appreciate that.
Thanks.
PS. I notice '(Avast)' after your name. I'm not surprised the competing app I recently tried caused the same problem I had with AVG – it was Avast, and I now understand AVG is a subsidiary of Avast. I noticed the Avast interface was very similar to AVG's, and the steps in the scan it performed just after I installed it were like AVG's.

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the information. I see you are still facing the issue. I am sorry for the inconvenience. May I ask you for additional query? Could you please confirm AVG consuming more memory after installing it? Have you tried reinstalling the program? Could you please confirm whether you are using any other Antivirus on your PC? Thanks and Keep us updated.

Hi Aarthy,
I won't be reinstalling AVG until I know what caused the problem I described. I uninstalled and reinstalled it multiple times over the years – after uninstalling, the problem would stop but after reinstalling, it would gradually start again. With AVG, my computer took longer to boot up than it does without AVG – the processor would be active for longer during the process (from the flashing light and the sound it makes).
I'd only have one antivirus program on my system at a time – I'm just wondering what might have caused the problem when AVG was installed.
