Hello Ron,
This screen would appear only when you have enabled the password feature for AVG program and its settings.
If you aren't sure about the password, then we will not be able to reset it.
To fix this, we have to reinstall the program using our clear tool.
Run AVG clear tool as mentioned in this article and install AVG Antivirus free by referring this article.

Just trying to start AVG Antivirus, and it automatically goes to the password screen saying that "an attempt has been made to enter protected area…" In the past it has only done that after I try to use a function at the main status screen. Is this a new thing caused by an AVG update, or is this possibly a malware attack?
How can I check? The screen will not allow me to manually cancel, it just resets the cancel timer to 60 seconds. If I allow the cancel timer to run out, it just resets back to 60.
I do know the password… But I don't remember changing any password features. Normally in the past I will start AVG and it shows the basic starting status screen. Then when I enter any of the selections, it asks me for the password. This is the first time it has required the password immediately upon starting.
The Authorization screen says "This may be a legitimate action, or could also be the result of a malware attack. Select cancel unless you are performing the action deliberately"
This is what has be concerned. I did not start any action, other than trying to open AVG in the first place. And the Cancel button is not working.
Thank you for clarifying us with more information.
