AVG Antivirus Free scan that won't stop

We would request you to click the link http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=30679 to install the Microsoft redistribute files. Please click on download , install the 32 and 64 bit links .
Restart your computer after installing both the files and start scanning your computer with AVG program.

I started a scan Sunday 1/29.  The scan has scanned 308 objects - only 1%.  I cannot get the scan to stop.  Any advice about stopping this scan is appreciated.
