AVG AntiVirus Installation

Thanks for the report!

Since Apple announced the purge of 32-bit apps, it's no surprise to hear your AVG won't open on macOS High Sierra. I suggest you make some general check on your app compatibility, like if it’s 32-bits app? If it gets affected by Apple System Integrity Protection (SIP)? And give a try to uninstall AVG from your Mac (https://www.minicreo.com/mac-uninstaller/completely-uninstall-applications-on-mac.html) first, try to reinstall it to see if the problem persists.

Hello Flor,

This isn't the expected behavior.
Restart your Mac and try accessing AVG Antivirus.
If the issue persists, proceed with the re-installation.
For uninstallation, refer this article: https://goo.gl/PyBo6w .
To install AVG Antivirus in Mac, refer this article: https://goo.gl/wXZHhT .
Keep us informed about the status.

Have the same issues as others it seems - purchased AVG ultimate today - tried to install this on 3 macs unsuccessfully - never opens or runs or confirms that there is any protection.
Have followed the advice on the suport sites re
1.reinstalling (have used the AVG uninstaller and other uninstallers) reinstalling (as you can guess from the previous comment) several times, restarting numerous times - nothing.
2. running commands in terminal - first command already running, second states files not found so no luck there either
Have spent a frustrating afternoon gettig nowehere
Then ended up with an even more frustrating time with a customer support person telling me that first they dont support apple products and then that I should just use the free version. When I responded that this is the retail [not free] version and that there is clearly an apple symbol on the box - he just kept responding to use the free version. When I asked why they then sell a version for macs if that's the best advice he could give me his answer was that its for PC {that's why there is an apple symbol on the box??} then responding that its a new version and its not been updated etc etc. When I asked about refunding the purchase cost if all he could advise was the free version, he said take it back to the retailer you bought it from - who not surprisingly does not take back open box software where the license has probably been used!!
So far this is the worst software purchase experience I have ever had!!
So What's the deal? Do you have an apple product or not - is AVG Ultimate with the  symbol not supposed to be purchased by apple owners? How can this product be made to work on an apple - or is it the same as the free product [as he suggested to me it was] in which case there are two questions I have -
one why did I pay for it? and
two why recommend I use something that is not working? -  which is why I was reaching out to support in the first place!

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thank you for answering - I followed your advice, uninstalled/re-installed twice, but without a different result : AVG doesn't open automatically after "successful instalation" neither when manually attempted to open the program - then it seems to react but ultimately fails to open …

Greetings
Flor

Flor,
We are here to help. May I know what is the exact issue you're experiencing with AVG installation on your Wife's mac computer? Is there any error message while installing AVG? If yes, then share a screenshot of the error message to proceed further. Also let me know the version of your Wife's mac computer.
Regards,
Alok.
