I've just noticed that AVG is out of date when you open the user interface (5/10)2018). I willl perform a manual update hoping against hope the this update contains a fix for the auto update not working issue.
So you said version 18.7.3069 would definitely fix the auto update problem!?!?! See below what displayed in the user interface today.
When will AVG support take this ongoing issue seriously?
"This is the unusual behavior with AVG. We haven't received any such issues from other users. "
Most users do not open the AVG user interface everyday to check for this behavior is probably why you haven't received other users concerns. Do you personally open the AVG user interface daily? I'm betting the answer is no.
Hi Mel,
AVG Zen has been discontinued and would request you to contact us via live medium (chat) to resolve the issue.

Thank you.
AVG free automatically updates the virus definitions, but it doesn't update the software. As a result, if I open the AVG user interface, I'm likely to see update required in bold red letters at the top of the interface. I tried finding a place where I could 'select' update automatically in the settings section, but there aren't any options to set up software update check and perform an update. Has anyone figured this problem out?
It's been 4 versions of AVG that this has been happening with that I have reported on. I've run the procedures you provided several times in the past and I find myself still with this problem. Running yhem AGAIN is unlikely to fix this issue, and I haven't the time nor the energy to run through this again.
Bert, we apologize for the inconvenience caused. We will certainly help you to resolve the issue.
I have sent you the email instructions to connect your PC to our remote technician team where our AVG experts will analyse the case and will help you in resolving the issue.
Please follow the email instructions to connect your PC to our remote expert team to fix the issue.
Hello Bert,
I am sorry to hear that. It could be possible that the latest updated have failed to install completely or the connection with update server was interrupted. Please press Window key along with R key to open the Run command.
-Type ncpa.cpl on the Run command and enter to open the Network Connections.
-Right-click on your active internet connection (this may be "Ethernet", "Wireless Network Connection" or "Local Area Connection" depending on how your computer is set up) and select Properties.
-In the Networking tab, click once on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP4) to highlight it, and then click Properties.
-Select Use the following DNS server addresses and then enter the following:
Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4
-Click OK to finish.
Now, update the AVG program manually and check if that fixes the issue. If not provide the screenshot [http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot] of AVG Interface to assist further.
I re-ran AVG Remover in SAFE MODE. My PC rebooted and came up in non-safe mode, so I ran AVG remover based on the prompt to do so. I then rn AVG Clear in SAFE MODE. I then intalled AVG 19.1.
I will continue to daily monitor the AVG GUI for warnings of failure to update AVG with a new version available and auto update selected.
You really need to clean up the remover/clear process as this is a major undertaking for the average AVG user. Especially where the software recommends you to run Clear in SAFE more but the support instructions tells you not to run it in SAFE MODE.

I installed AVG Zen. I have Windows Vista. I get the same message above "out of date". Can anyone offer a suggestion? Also, Is there anyway around getting microsoft or google updates on older OS's? This is ridiculous. They just want to make extra money. I don't like 10 at all!
The auto update feature still has not been fixed. Even worse, placing your cursor on the icon on the status bar displays "You are protected" leaving users to believe everything is working properly : (

Hello Bert,
Thank you for providing screenshots. I certainly understand that you're looking for AVG Antivirus Free automatic updates settings. Please open AVG Antivirus Free > Menu > Settings > Updates > click on settings drop down button under Virus Definitions/program tab > check if automatic updates box has marked. If not, the please check the box/select automatic updates and save the settings.
Best regards,
Alok.
Avg failed to recognize and automatically update when a new version was available on January 3rd, 2019. In which millenium will this feature finally be fixed?
On Thursday June 21 st at 11 PM, I checked the AVG interface and found that a new update was available on 6/20/18 but AVH did not perform an update even though it is configured for automatic update.
I am currently running AVG version 18.4.3056 dated 5/10/18.
We assure you that this issue won't be repeating again in our latest version.
In case if the issue still persists with the latest version we will escalate the case to our senior team to get this issue resolved as soon as possible.
We request you to follow the previous instructions to install our latest version of AVG Internet Security program to check with the issue.
