Recent change to the AVG Free antivirus software.
On October 31st, I noticed that AVG began automatically updating Windows applications. Further investigation revealed this behavior started as early as October 17th.
According to information found on Reddit (and the link does work) this automatic update functionality is typically a feature reserved for premium versions of AVG and Avast. However, it is now occurring with the free version without user consent or any option to disable it.
This unexpected change raises security and privacy concerns. Users of the free version should have control over such actions.
I feel your response is being quite evasive
and if this issue is not resolved promptly, I believe compensation may be warranted.
Thank you for writing us back John,
I am sorry you feel this way. I appreciate your efforts for sending us the information. I would like to inform you that AVG Internet Security or Antivirus free does not have the capability to update other Windows applications.
Microsoft Store on Windows can automatically install app updates. If the automatic update feature is enabled, your applications get updated without you being asked, so you may not realise that large volumes of data are being downloaded. This might be the reason your Windows applications got automatically updated.
I hope this help you to resolve the issue. if you need anything else at all, feel free to message me at any time. I’d be happy to help.
Thank you for your understanding.
Hi as you can see from the Reddit post AVG and Avast users are being affected by this. Now it appears there is a way to disable it on Avast but not AVG. I am having to now uninstall AVG on every device with is very time consuming and also roll back a number of applications that are critical to the business.
