Thank you for contacting AVG Community Support.
I completely understand your concern, it’s always suspicious when an unfamiliar process like taskeng.exe tries to access sensitive information, such as Firefox cookies.
Taskeng.exe is usually a legitimate process related to Windows Task Scheduler. However, to check if this is a legitimate or false detection, we need a screenshot of the threat popup you received, so we can review the same and assist further with this detection.
Please check this article (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=avg-create-screenshot) for the steps to take screenshot. Click on the mountain image to attach the screenshot to this post.
Looking forward to your reply.
Here is the screenshot I took when the report came up. Then I pressed on button "MANTENER EL BLOQUEO" that means 'keep the application block' since AVG message said it had already block temporarily the application.
Thanks
My AVG Internet Security has reported that taskeng.exe tried to access Firefox cookies. What can be happening? Does it make sense?
Thank you for writing us back.
We understand that you have updated the AVG now.
We request you to monitor the issue, if you still face same issue, please do write us back.
Thank you.
I have opened AVG i order to check for updates a few minutes ago. AVG has updated the virus definitions right away so I can't tell if, at the time of the report, there was this update pending.
I have opened General/Update pane. It indicated that there was a pending application update dated august the 8th, though option 'Automatically update' was selected, so I have downloaded it manually.
I have removed the blockage of taskeng.exe in the blocked application list so I can check what happens from now on.
