AVG blocking everything as a threat?

I tried Alan's advice and the support team essentially told me to get lost and that they only support paid users. I pointed them to this thread shortly before they closed the window. I'm about to uninstall, I don't need AVG throwing up a thousand pop ups everytime I open an app…

Rachel, AVG Mac OS support… Please click on the following link (http://avgclick.me/AVGtechnical) and choose Yes for the Question "Are you currently using any paid/trial AVG products?" inspite of using the Free version and fill out your details, select as Mac OS then the name of AVG Program that you installed in your device and in description please completely explain about your issue and finally click on the 'Start Chat' option. You will start a live, online chat with one of the AVG agents.

Hello

Tried to open Google Chrome on my mac and AVG (free version 2015.0) popped up with 'threat blocked' as a potentially unwanted application. I made an exception and tried to open chrome again where up popped another 3 'threats' - for ksadmin, crashpad_handler and googlechromehelper. Not knowing what these are, I let AVG put them into quarantine. And despite googling them, im still none the wiser (Safari is working fine). Now google chrome is giving me 'something went wrong while displaying this webpage'.  Avg is now flagging VLC player as a threat and googlesoftwareupdateagent. Avg auto updated yesterday. Any insights as to what is going on would be greatly appreciated and what to do with these 'threats'. Thank you!
