AVG blocking VPN client

We use a VPN client (Forticlient) to log-in to our work desktop. I added an exception to AVG but for some reason it will not connect until we deactivate AVG. Despite adding the exception AVG it's not work unless it's turned off… Appreciate any possible workaround or help with resolving this matter…
