Good morning I'm not sure where to post this but since upgrading to AVG Ultimate I have been unable to access the internet via my default browser Google Chrome. This is either because a particular website says "This site can’t provide a secure connection" or it blocked internet access completely. This applies to Edge as well. (I don't use Firefox).
Interestingly this doesn't seem to happen with AVG Secure Browser
I realised this seems to be to do with "Enabling HTTPS scanning" with in the Web Shield functionality. If you disable Web Shield then browsing functionality appears to be restored. With Web Shield active either web connectivity slows down significantly or it stops working. VPN doesn't seem to be an issue.
However, my Laptop (a year old) has been re-booted twice (as advised by previous posts). This does not seem to cure the problem. My preferred default Browser will always be Google Chrome, but I sincerely hope AVG are not trying to 'force' me into using their browser.
This appears to be a known issue going back to 2021, so, I'm VERY disappointed that it hasn't been resolved yet and I've paid good money for the privilege of poor or no connectivity. The purpose of HTTPS Scanning (as I understand it) is to discover things like malware - so I would think I need this to be working properly rather than disable it.
Perhaps someone from AVG can shed more light on this - AND FIX IT? Or perhaps other users have had a similar problem.
Additionally, I'm trying to understand the difference between VPN TAP & VPN Wintun and whether I'm correct to trust these networks.
Thanks.
