AVG blocks SSL/TLS connection for inbound POP3 mail

Hello Arjun,

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.
We're aware of this ongoing issue with AVG Email shield & our developers are currently working towards a resolution/fix.
However, we require screenshots (of error messages received while trying to send/receive emails) & AVG Debug Diagnostic logs from your computer, so that our developers can analyze the logs & come up with a resolution.
We've sent you an email with detailed instructions to contact our additional support, so that they can collect these data.
Kindly check your inbox/spam folders to find the email and use it to contact them at your convenient time.

The latest automatic update of the AVG Free software installation has caused my email client (Forte Agent on Windows) to fail. It can no longer connect to POP3 servers - the error is "Server closed connection unexpectedly".

The only "solution" I have found is to disable scanning of inbound mail, i.e. Settings -> Basic protection -> Email Shield -> Scan inbound emails (POP3,IMAP4) unchecked.

Why has AVG made this breaking change in its functionality?  The connections have been working for years. Now all of a sudden they fail unless I disable scanning of inbound emails.

Is there some way to remedy this properly, without introducing a vulnerability?
