AVG blocks Thunderbird access to Comcast email servers

Hi Jon,

We are sorry to hear that. We suggest you to change the firewall network profile from "Public" to "Private" and check if that fix the issue. To change this settings, please open the AVG Internet Security and click on Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Network profile.

Thank you!

I have been using Mozilla Thunderbird as an email client for years and I have been using AVG Ultimate (current version Internet Security 17.3.3011) for a couple of years as well. Starting a couple of days ago, I can no longer access email servers at Comcast.  When I disable AVG, I can access those servers.

I called AVG tech support and their proposed solution was to give a tech in India remote access to my computer. I will never do that.

Their alternative solution is to add an exception for the Thunderbird executable to AVG protection.  However, I don't want to turn off ALL protection, just allow Thunderbird to access Comcast through the firewall.

Is there a way to allow Thunderbird to access Comcast servers through the AVG firewall without turning off all protection?

Hello Jon,
Thank you for your valuable efforts which you have taken to fix it.  We assure you that the issue which experienced from your side  is wont happen again and we will try to give you the resolution in first instant itself.
Thank you.

Thanks, that seems to have fixed the problem!

I don't know why the AVG tech support person with whom I spoke on the phone couldn't have suggested that but instead insisted that I allow remote access to my computer, which is something most users are VERY reluctant to do!
