As we're uncertain about the exact message that you receive, would you be so kind to share us the screenshot of it for better clarity?
Also, let us know if you refer to the thumbnails or bookmarks as shortcuts on your browser.

All of the sudden all of the shortcuts on my start-up page disappeared and there is a message that says: assets-client.avgbrowser.com redirected you too many times.
How do I restore it?

We'd request to click on Menu (three dots) at the top right corner, click 'More tools' -> Extensions. Check if there is a 3rd party extension installed and remove it. If there are no suspicious extensions, we'd request to rest the web browser to default settings as per the steps below:

To reset your AVG Secure Browser settings:

Open AVG Secure Browser.
Click ⋮ Menu (three dots) in the top-right corner of the screen, then select Settings.
Scroll to the bottom of the Settings screen, and click Advanced.
Scroll to the bottom of the screen again and click Restore settings to their original defaults, then select Reset settings to confirm.
