I like to adress the same issue. We have customers reports in last few days about crashes in our product in COMCTL32.DLL. It happens on WIN 8.1 or WIN10 PC with instaled AVG.
We tested the workaround with putting our software on the withe list and the users can temporary work with it. But I also think this issue in AVG should be solved as quick as possible. Many our customers will not report the issue, but still experience probelms with everyday work. As our product is in use on a daily base in few thousands companies, it can be a real problem for the users. Also it is troublesome for our support departament to answer the customers calls, to get them workaround for the issue created by AVG.
Do you have allready any plans about the fix release?
Hello, We regret for the inconvenience caused. Please try to repair the AVG program and check whether it resolves the issue. Once again thanks for your reaction. And yes, sure it is. Switching off AVG stops the problem completely. Excepting the exe's our program languages produces and the languages itself too.
The program languages crashes as few seconds after opening the main screen. The programs we produce with it seem to crash as soon as browsers are displayed (listviews for example).
Understandably that is not an option on AVG Free. I never needed the extra options in the paid version (neither do I understand why the Free version is free anyway…). Hopefully the problem is corrected in some future version.
Since May 5, a number of 32 bit apps (like development language Cavo) fail after a few seconds of use with the error below. First I tried to restore a system restore point (which fails, reportedly because of a AVG DLL although I switched AVG off for this). On login in AVG says it needed to update which I postponed and then everything works fine until the next restart. Indeed switching off AVG has the same effect so the problem is without doubt caused by AVG (Free). No changes in the installation proceeded the error and I read the same problem from another user of Cavo. OS is Windows 10 Pro. What causes this problem?
An AVG technician has logged in on my system, seen what happens and agrees a whitelist is nothing more than a temporary solution. Philip's post confirms my impression that the comctl32.dll error results from using browsers like a listview. The whitelist is not a solution as developers usually have many programs. If Visual Studion programs fail too it means that soon half of the programs available in the market should be whitelisted. I recommend AVG to check what they changed around My 5th that could influence this.
We do understand your concern. Our developers are working on this. Soon they will find a fix and release in the future updates. Your patience is much appreciated.

Disabling, adding our executable to exclusion list and uninstalling all work. I can always reproduce the error with enabled AVG and can confirm its not occuring with disabled protection in all my tests.
We searched a lot of possible reasons for the error but found the most possible at our affected customers in all of them using AVG (free edition and business editions).

Hello Philip & Anthony, Thank you for contacting us. If you are the developers of the application, please visit this webpage http://www.avg.com/ww-en/whitelist . Thank you.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused. We have escalated this to our senior level team and once we get a suggestion will post it here. Your patience is much appreciated.
We also have an application written in CAVO, v2.6 in our case. Our customers using AVG and our product together currently face the same errors. We got the first reports on Fri, 6th and get more since yesterday. We also can reproduce the error on my system with little action.
Do you already know a solution or hints to solve the errors? If not maybe i can help tracing it down? It might be linked with something CAVO developers do specially.

I am having the same problem. I am a software developer and regularly recommend that my clients use AVG.
If I disable AVG the applications work fine, If I uninstall AVG the applications work fine. Install AVG the COMCTL32 error occurs. If this problem persists I will unfortunately have to ask my clients to migrate to another antivirus system.
