AVG causing Firefox to say "Your connection is not secure"

After a recent AVG (free edition) update, I was unable to connect to any websites because of a pop-up message "Your connection is not secure."
Other than resetting to factory default (which is only a temporary fix) and de-selecting "enable HTTPS scanning" (which is like essentially shutting off AVG entirely) is there a better solution?

When I switched to Internet Explorer, there were no such problems, but I would rather use Firefox.
