AVG checks files when only attributes are accessed!

I use Boinc, a distributed computing program. As part of it’s function, it checks how much disk space is being used by each of the projects running under it. All it does is look at the attributes of each file so it can add up disk space. Why is AVG treating a checking of attributes as a reason to scan the file? This is using up a lot of processor time and slowing down the science. I would like to put this suggestion to AVG but it would appear I have to have a paid for AVG to be able to do so. Please can somebody forward this to the technical staff?

P.S. I know I can create an exception to the program’s folders, and I have done so, but I shouldn’t have to. Most users of Boinc (there are millions) will not want to do this, or won’t realise they need to, or aren’t techy enough to bother.
