I understand your concern and to perform the scan process please follow the below process.
Open AVG->open AVG antivirus part->Click on 'scan computer' option. Once the scan process gets completed it will show the threats if any.

Hello, I have AVG Anti Virus installed. I am looking for a way to scan files through the command line. The online tutorials I have found seem to be outdated. Does this option still exist?

I am looking to start a scan through command prompt. Not using the GUI.

Hello Mike,
Unfortunately, we cannot scan your computer using AVG from Command line. However, you can use the "Boot time scan" which has the same feature and scans all the Windows files. Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance. Thank you.
