AVG compatible with Mozilla Thunderbird

I'm still using XP Home Professional  - Ihave been using Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird for a few years and never had any problems. 
I recently upgraded both to 52.2.1 and also renewed my AVG licence and not fFox and TBird will not open. 
I click on the icon, little hourglass runs and then the little hand reappears. Can't find where the program has opened. 
I tried to re download ver 52 and i get a message saying "Thunderbird is currently in use and must be closed"
Do you have any idea of what could be happening. I'm getting rather frustrated. I'm using Shaw Webmail but Have no address book on this program.

I am sorry to hear that. Please check if you have the 2017 version of AVG Internet Security installed in your computer. If it is, then please follow the below steps and check if that fix the issue:

Please open the AVG Internet Security installed in your computer and click on Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Change the application settings from "Auto Decide to "Allow". Once this is done, click on "Network Profile(Left side of the interface) and change the profile to "Private" if selected in "Public". Once this is done, please click on "System Rules" and enable the "Networking and Printer sharing" option and check if that fix the issue. If you face any difficulties, feel free to contact us.
