AVG Computer update required message

In the AVG panel the computer update is in "warning" status but the FIX IT tool is not working.  I called the SUPPORT and the technician came on my laptop but insisted I would buy a certain program for $99 so that they could fix it.  He told me that certain programs on my computer conflicted with the updates??? Since I refused to buy another product he passed me to his manager because that was the only way for them to completely close the connection to my computer.  The manager insisted that I would buy the tool and brought the price down to $49.00, but I refused.  Their product is not working on my computer and now I have to spend more money to have them fix it?    I have used AVG for over 15 years and never had such experience.  I always feel very insecure when things like this happen since I am not sure if I am speaking with professional AVG employees or hackers.

Anyway, back to the issue.  
When I click on the computer icon the Antivirus and Data safe icons appear, the Antivirus icon is i "warning status" saying that some components need updates, when I say FIX IT, it searches for updates and then tells me that everything is up to date. My AVG internet safety will expire September 2019 so it should be up to date.
I read a suggestion of uninstalling AVG and reinstalling it, but I have no idea on how to do that since I remember when I first bought it they sent me an email with a link to install it.
I would appreciate your help  and specific direction.
