AVG Crashing Computer

Hi, I was wondering if anybody else is having/has had this problem and if so what they did to fix it. I have the latest free version of AVG installed on my computer (an ASUS A55V laptop running Windows 10), and yesterday I noticed the little AVG icon in my task bar had an exclamation point on it so I clicked into it to see what was going on. AVG gave me an alert saying that my computer was "not fully protected", the alert it usually gives when it needs to update. However, this time, when I cliked the "Fix" button, a dialogue box appeared with a message saying something along the lines of "AVG state restore failed" (I don't recall the exact wording) with a link to get more information online. However, before I even had a chance to click the link the screen went black, and neither clicking the mouse, pressing the space bar, pressing escape, nor pressing Ctrl Alt Del did anything, so I had no choice but to do a hard reboot. However, when I went to turn the computer back on, it began to boot for a split second but then simply stopped. I left it over night and most of the next day, and when I came back to it and tried again it successfully booted back up and I was able to log in and everything like normal. However, AVG was still giving me the same alert about my computer not being fully protected, and when I opened AVG and clicked the "Fix" button the exact same thing happened all over again. I know the first reply people with problems like this normally get on here is a suggestion to contact AVG support about the issue, but I just wanted to first see if anybody else knows anything about this issue as I'm not 100 percent certain that it is AVG that is causing this (although I am reasonably certain that it is).
Thanks.
