I used to have avast! installed instead of AVG around 2-3 years ago. Now, every time I do a Deep Scan in AVG, I get "143 unsecured threats found", all of which are Rootkits within some sort of "C:\avast! sandbox" of files that point to .NET Core exe's and dll's. (I'm a software developer)
When I navigate to my C:/ drive even with hidden files on, I cannot see this folder.
Clicking "Resolve" or "Resolve All" in AVG does nothing. I know these are not actual threats, however AVG thinks they are and it is rather annoying. I cannot get rid of them.
I've attached an image below which shows an example of the issue.
Conclusively, how can I get rid of these false threats and stop AVG picking them up OR figure out how to resolve them? Thanks
Hello Jan. I would like to confirm that C:\avast! sandbox\ folder is a part of Avast product. I would like also like to confirm that this is a false positive.
I repaired my AVG, restarted, re-ran a deep scan and the same errors appeared and both trying to "Resolve All" as well as "Resolve" each one individually just makes it say "Resolving" for about 5-10 seconds and then nothing happens. AVG is still unable to resolve them and provides no error message.
I have had the same problem, but when the first rootkit was found in the C:\avast! sandbox\ folder scan holds and does not continue.
I had reinstalled AVG, but this did not remove the problem. I have even performed a windows reset to remove all software from the PC, even this did not remove the problem. Performing a scan resulted in the same found rootkit. The scan stops as soon as the first rootkit was found and AVG did no longer respond from that point.
2 months later I have installed an AVG update. Now it does no longer recognize a rootkit in the C:\avast! sandbox\ folder.
Still, I am not sure if this was an actual rootkit or a false positive. I am still confused about the C:\avast! sandbox\ folder since I can not find it when show hidden folders is turned on.
